Head Wrestling Coach
Fernando is a 1997 graduate of Santa Ana High School where he was a
stand out wrestler. While wrestling for the Saints he was a 2X CIF
Champion, 2X Masters Place winner, 2X State Freestyle Champ, 2X State
Qualifier, 5th in the California State Championships and the first
Masters Champion in the history of the school. Fernando was also the
1997 Santa Ana High School athlete of the year. He went on to Golden West College where he competed at a 125lbs. He placed 3rd in the JC
State Championships his freshman year and was crowned JC State Champ
his Sophomore Year.
Fernando has been an assistant coach for the Santa Ana Saints and
also coached the freestyle club “Santa Ana Wolfpack” for a couple
seasons. He was invited to coach at the Asics World Class Wrestling
Institute in Boston where he met Carl Adams the head wrestling coach at
Boston University. Carl was impressed with Fernando’s coaching and
wrestling skills and decided to hire him as the assistant wrestling
coach for the Terriers.
After moving back from Boston, Fernando spent two years coaching
once again for the Saints. Since then Fernando has gone on to work in
the wrestling retail and camp industry. Fernando has been a clinician
camp and director for camps throughout California. He currently works on
the administration team for the Hitchcock/Azevado camps in Lake Tahoe.
He also coaches, organizes and manages his own wrestling club the “Rat
Pack”.
Fernando has also been known to train many Mixed Martial Arts fighters (Zack and Jake Brennan, Bao
Quach, Rob Emerson, Jared Rollins, Ian McCall, Shaine Delasario and
Martin Bautista) in the finer skills of wrestling. His breadth of
wrestling knowledge, skill and expertise ranks with some of the finest
coaches in the western United States.
Fernando is happy to pass on his wrestling knowledge and wisdom to the Next Generation RSM students and Professional MMA fighters and we are proud to have him as our Coach!!
